Honorable August J. Marigny and Willard C. Pitts Scholarship
The Marigny/Pitts Scholarship honors the legacy of August J Marigny and Willard C Pitts through a selective scholarship program that advances higher
education for community-minded and intellectually gifted underprivileged youth. Marigny/Pitts competitively awards Scholars to the most talented and economically-challenged high school seniors who demonstrate a keen
interest in public service, community engagement, business entrepreneurship and global citizenship.
Applicants for the Marigny/Pitts MUST be graduating high school seniors at the time of their application.

Honorable August J. Marigny was a New Orleans native who received his Bachelor of Science degree from Southern University in Baton Rouge and his Master of Education degree at the University of Central Oklahoma in Edmond. Brother Marigny worked as a teacher, Deputy Director with the Oklahoma Industrialization Center, Computer professional at Tinker Air Force base and Supervisor at Oklahoma Human Rights Commission. And finally he is what we call “Mr. Sigma” in Oklahoma, brother Marigny served in many capacities within Phi Beta Sigma Inc. and was a charter member of Delta Beta Sigma graduate chapter in Oklahoma City and a member of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity Inc. for 61 years. Brother Marigny passed away July 30, 2012.
Willard C Pitts was a Oklahoma City native who received his B. A. degree in Journalism from Lincoln University in Jefferson City, Missouri, and his Master of Education degree at University of Central Oklahoma in
Edmond. Brother Pitts begin his teaching career 1966 and retired in 2005 but in reality he never stopped educating young folks. Brother Pitts taught at Douglass High Schools, University of Central Oklahoma,
Langston University and was the main force who revitalize Sigma’s in Oklahoma.
He was instrumental in starting the majority of the chapters in Oklahoma, Brother Pitts’ passion was in Journalism
in which he taught for many years but he loved Phi Beta Sigma and was a loyal member of the fraternity for 55 years and served in many capacities within Phi Beta Sigma Inc. Brother Pitts served on many boards
and he also taught many students in Africa. Brother Pitts passed away October 17, 2015. Brother Pitts left a legacy of “Pittsisms” (phrases and quotes for all who came in contact with him) Here are a few:
